Take the Beverly Hillbillies, for example, even though the Clampetts were America’s favorite redneck family and one of the most watched TV programs in history, critics found the show “painful to sit through” among many other unpleasantries.

According to many reports, Buddy Ebsen was only offered the role as Jed Clampett based on his performance as Doc Golightly in the hit film Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
